Male Vs. Female Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a procedure performed on the nose to enhance its aesthetic appearance. At times, rhinoplasty is also done to improve breathing by restoring nasal airflow and drainage.
Men and women differ in terms of the nasal structure that is most suitable to their appearance. Men usually have a strongly detailed nose with a sharp angle. Women, on the other hand, usually prefer softer features and a refined nasal tip. Many women prefer a supra-tip break, which is the term for a slight upward projection of the nasal tip.
Dr. Tamplen is nationally recognized for his rhinoplasty outcomes. He takes on some of the most difficult cases and provides consistently elegant and natural noses that can breathe.
Am I A Good
Candidate For
Female Rhinoplasty?
The best candidates for female rhinoplasty are women who are at least 15 years old. Since rhinoplasty is a permanent procedure, it is best performed on people who have already fully developed their adult facial structure.
Female rhinoplasty is also recommended for non-smokers and healthy individuals with no medical conditions that could compromise incision healing.
Smokers must avoid smoking four to six weeks before and after the procedure.
Women with diabetes, venous insufficiency, peripheral arterial disease, cardiopulmonary and oxygen transport conditions, and immunodeficiencies may not be considered for female rhinoplasty.
Your Female
Rhinoplasty
Consultation
The consultation for female rhinoplasty will involve a transparent and realistic discussion of appearance goals. The decision to have this procedure must come from the patient and not the influence of their peers. Each facial structure will require different nasal features to achieve facial symmetry. You will need to provide your medical history and a list of medications previously or currently being taken. This will ensure a safer procedure and proper selection of sedation and anesthesia.
The Procedure
For a comfortable procedure, sedation and anesthesia will be administered before the surgery. Once these medications take effect, the surgeon will proceed with incision.
Rhinoplasty incisions may be hidden inside the nose or placed on the narrow strip of tissue that separate the nostrils. The proper type of incision will be determined during the consultation.
After incisions have been made, the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilages may be gently raised. The structure of the nose will then be reshaped. If required, cartilage grafts may be taken from the patient’s own nasal septum, ear or rib. At the end of the surgery, incisions will be closed with sutures.
The Recovery Process
The newly sculpted nose will be covered in tape to support the nose during healing, and splints will be placed inside the nose. Dr. Tamplen does completely pack the nose with gauze to ensure some nasal breathing during the recovery process.
Medications for preventing infection will be prescribed, and pain relievers will be prescribed to help patients feel more comfortable during recovery.
A post-operative appointment will be scheduled for the removal of the splints and nasal dressing. During this appointment, the surgeon will also assess the progress of healing.
The nose should recover from the surgery after six weeks. Refrain from strenuous activities for four to five weeks. There will be some swelling and bruising around the nose.
Dr. Tamplen’s meticulous approach allows these issues to subside quickly usually 7-10 days. Most of the swelling and bruising will subside after 7-10 days. Some deep internal swelling will be present for 6 months but should not be easily noticeable. Follow-up visits will be scheduled regularly to ensure your recovery is going smoothly.
Dr. Tamplen strives to ensure patient is happy with their nose immediately. Look at some of these videos to see how patients react with they see their nose for the first time!
