Dr. Tamplen has come back home to help all Bay Area patients with their Cosmetic needs. Double Board Certified Dr. Tamplen is an expert in Facial Plastic Surgery. After graduating from De La Salle Dr. Tamplen attend UC Davis on a full-tuition scholarship. He graduated early, ranking #1 in the College of Biological Sciences with a 4.0 GPA, and was awarded The College Medal: the highest honor offered by the University to 1 graduating senior per year. Dr. Tamplen was recruited to UCLA Medical School with a Full Tuition Merit Scholarship and at UCLA achieved one of the highest scores in the nation on the medical licensing exam and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors society. He then attended top ranked, five-year surgical training program in Head and Neck Surgery in his hometown of San Francisco at the UCSF.

Dr. Tamplen grew up in the Bay Area in Lafayette Ca. He attended De la Salle high school and then went on to UC Davis for college. He graduated at the top of his class in Biological Sciences at UC Davis earning the prestigious College Medal while on a full tuition scholarship. Dr. Tamplen was recruited to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA with the David Geffen Merit Scholarship and was elected to the acclaimed Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society for scoring the top score in the nation on all three of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations.
After UCLA, Dr. Tamplen continued his facial plastic surgery training during his Otolaryngology residency at the University of California San Francisco. While he was there, he published over ten articles in peer reviewed journals, which included a randomized control trial that dramatically changed the way surgeons manage their postoperative patients.
After his residency, Dr. Tamplen continued his specialty expertise training with a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. Edward Farrior in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Tamplen excelled in Rhinoplasty and Facelifts and achieved the highest score on the 2018 ABFPRS examination winning the coveted Jack Anderson prize.
In addition to his aesthetic work, philanthropy is a pillar of his practice. He is committed to helping children throughout the world with limited medical and financial resources receive surgeries, including cleft lip and palate reconstruction.
Dr. Matthew Tamplen, a well-known Facial Plastic Surgeon with Kaiser Permanente, is thrilled to have private practices in both Downtown Orinda and Scottsdale Arizona. Having grown up in Lafayette, Dr. Tamplen was excited to open his first private office in Orinda. He later met his wife Kayla in Scottsdale Arizona and recently moved to Scottsdale to be close to her family.
