Sometimes thin lips are caused by a simple lack of volume and filler can treat this beautifully. This is especially true in younger patients.

However, sometimes the white portion of the upper lip can elongate with age or have increased length naturally. When this is the case, filler injections to the lips may not be adequate to create an attractive shape. Therefore, it is important so see an experienced facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Tamplen when considering lip augmentation. If the white lip is too long and an attempt to get significant volume is made with fillers alone, then too much filler will be injected, and the lips will get too full in the anterior posterior direction and look “Ducky.”

In cases where the white portion of the upper lip is too long, a lip lift will be the right choice to create fuller, shapelier, more youthful looking lips in adults of all ages.

A detailed physical exam will be performed on every patient. The ideal distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip is 12 to 14mm in women. This distance can increase by several millimeters with age and sometimes naturally long. Dr. Tamplen can demonstrate what removing different amounts of upper lip will look like in the office so you both can decide on the ideal surgical plan.

Dr. Tamplen meticulously hides the scar in the nostril margin to camouflage and leave his patients with the smallest scar possible

Sutures will be removed 6-10 days later with typically recovery time of 1-2 weeks. The scar will fade over time and the results of fuller lips will be seen immediately.
